Since i could not locate one i figure i try making one.
Making lathe dials. Engraving on the lathe radial markings scales dials myford ml10. See more ideas about lathe metal working and machine tools. The discs in the photographs are 25mm 1 in diamet. If the stamp centerline was offset 1 8 the face struck not square to a centered tangent plane but 8 2 degrees from the radial centerline.
I do not have the gear yet so i m not absolutely sure it will work but i. I needed a thread dial for an old but good sebastian viking lathe. The remedy was to have additional grooves in his stamping jig offset from a radiial line. I will be making a permanent base to mount the dividing head on that will fit on the lathe base just for this purpose.
You can also use your lathe if you make a 100 or 200 hole indexing plate or couple up a dividing head for the spindle on the outboard left side. For two start threads its double the pitch measured and you drop it in 180 degrees appart on the thread chaser dial to do each thread. Each lathe is different some lathes don t have a easy reverse option if its imperial thread leadscrew and thread a chaser dial is useful and works. The lathe is easier to work with for engraving since you do everything with the compound.
The dial dia was 1 750 making the radius 0 875. They can be printed to produce larger higher contrast dials than came stock with the lathe. These are replacement lathe dials for the atlas lathe. One rh the other lh.
The dial is mounted on a piece of 1 2 drill rod mounted in a collet at the head stock the collet is not tight and a collet in the dividing head this collet is tightened.
