Build the frame for the door.
Wooden screen door plans. We used the radial saw and table saw to cut the boards down to the sizes we needed. Install a no mortise latchset centered on the door s middle rail. Open the door and slip the screen inserts into place then secure each with wooden turn buttons mounted to the back side of the door. We clamped all the pieces together.
Cut the middle rail. To attach the stiles and rails fit the table saw with a tongue and groove bit. Our door was 35 1 4 x 80 3 4 which is pretty standard. Line the latch case up to the edge of the rail on the inside of the door then mark the spindle location.
2 cut your wood pieces to length with a circular saw or miter saw. We started off with a 1 8 10 long and 2 1 6 10 long. Your dimensions will depend upon the dimensions of the doorway you are using the screen door in. Below you can see a diagram of the door not to scale which shows where we used the various sizes of wood.
Layout the dado for the spline. Cut the top rail. Drill pocket holes. We cut the 6 inch fir down to 5 1 2 inches to create the stiles.
